Anchorage, Alaska: The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) announced that President & CEO Skoey Vergen has been elected Vice Chair of the ANCSA Regional Association (ARA), which represents the presidents and CEOs of Alaska’s twelve Alaska Native regional corporations. Together, ARA member corporations represent more than 160,000 Alaska Native shareholders across the state.
ARA functions as a unified voice on matters critical to Alaska Native regional corporations (ANC). Through collaboration and advocacy, ARA addresses state and federal policy issues, advances responsible economic development, and helps safeguard the intent and continued success of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA).
Vergen’s election to Vice Chair positions Aleut in a key leadership role shaping priorities that impact Alaska Native corporations and the shareholders they serve. It strengthens Aleut’s ability to collaborate with fellow regional corporations on issues of statewide and national importance while ensuring the perspectives of Aleut shareholders, descendants, and communities are represented.
“ARA’s strength comes from the collective expertise of our regional corporations,” said Vergen. “As Vice Chair, my focus is on ensuring that collaboration translates into action — policies that preserve the foundations of ANCSA and decisions that protect the sustainability of all ANCs.”
Since becoming Aleut’s President & CEO in 2021, Vergen has served on the ARA Board and worked closely with regional ANC leaders to advance initiatives important to Alaska Native people, businesses, and communities. His election reflects the confidence of his peers and reinforces Aleut’s focus on collaborative leadership, responsible stewardship, and advocacy for its shareholders and Region.
