REMEMBERING EDNA LARSEN HUWE SEPTEMBER 8, 1944 – DECEMBER 10, 2021
Edna Huwe was the sixth of nine children born in King Cove, Alaska, to John and Agnes Tetoff Larsen. She graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in 1962 and moved to Seattle in 1963. She was instrumental in including all Unangax (Aleut) people in the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act in 1971, traveling extensively to Washington D.C., to lobby on the Unangax (Aleut) peoples’ behalf. She served on The Aleut Corporation’s first Board of Directors and was a founding leader for the Pacific Northwest Aleut Council.
Edna was proud of the culture and community in which she came from, passing down the traditions of her family and village to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Edna is loved and missed by her children Julie Murphy (Keith), Joni Wagner (Robert), Karin Ortiz, Nicholas Huwe (Azmaira); her grandchildren Karin Nayler (Graham), Ryan Wagner, Michael Murphy, RJ Ortiz, and Zoey Huwe; and her great-grandchildren Nathanial, Nolan, and Baby (on the way) Nayler.
Edna is also survived by her sisters Mary Ryan, May Stuteville, Kathryn McKinnon, and Linda Larsen.
In her passing, she joined her beloved husband Ron Huwe, her son John Randy Berg, her parents John and Agnes Tetoff Larsen, siblings Agnes Larsen Darnell, Nicholas Larsen, John Larsen Jr., and Elizabeth Larsen.
The family would like to thank Pastor Janelle Kurtz, Pastor Anne Hayes, and Snohomish United Methodist Church for their love and support.
