Condolences
March 2007

The board of directors and the staff of The Aleut Corporation would like to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the following shareholders who have recently passed away.


Edward Nelson, 66, Anchorage, AK
Edward was born April 19, 1940, in Sand Point, AK. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1960s.

He was a retired commercial fisherman and worked at the Sand Point Boat Harbor for 14 years, retiring in September 1999. He then moved to Anchorage.

He enjoyed cooking, taking pictures of boats and telling stories of fishing. He also liked to listen to country music.

Edward is survived by his aunt, Alma Bolton of Anchorage; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Julia Galovin of Anchorage; nephew and nieces, Allan Nelson of Anchorage, Jani Gundersen and Marita Gundersen, both of Sand Point; and many other family members and friends in Alaska, Washington and Iowa.

Mauza Williams, 92, Lacey, WA
Mauza Jane (Merculief) Williams passed away on February 10, 2007 at her home in Lacey, at the age of 92. She was born in St. George Island, Alaska on March 23, 1914.

She married Lowell Williams, Sr. of Oakville, WA and made her home with him in Elma, WA where they raised five children. In 1972, her job with Weyerhauser took her to Federal Way, WA where she retired. She then moved to Lacey where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Gertrude “Trudi” Clark and Dollie Seccombe. Mauza is survived by her brother Alexay Merculief of St. Paul Island, Alaska and sister Nina Lestenkof of St. George Island, Alaska; three children and their spouses, Janet Chapman and husband Floyd of Oakville, John Williams and wife Karrin of Lafayette, Indiana, and Lowell Williams, Jr. and wife Linda of Cathlamet; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, and her grandchildren. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and she will truly be missed.
