Presidents Report
August 2007

This year’s visits into the Aleut region are off to a tremendous start. I published the photos from St. Paul in the last edition of the Aleutian Current, so I’d like to report on the latest communities I have visited and held informational meetings:

· Unalaska had 58 attendees
· Nikolski had13 attendees
· Atka had 33 attendees
· Akutan had 21 attendees

The purpose of these village visits is to meet face-to-face with shareholders, share the state of the corporation, and most importantly address any shareholder’s questions, comments, and concerns. It is our goal to keep shareholders informed of the business of The Aleut Corporation and assist shareholders with keeping their records updated. I know not all of our shareholders can attend the annual meeting every year; this is my way of bringing part of that information to the shareholders.

I was able to visit with community leaders, Elders, youth, and many shareholders in each community. They all expressed their gratitude to TAC for presenting an update to them in their communities. One of my favorite comments during this past tour came from a shareholder in Akutan, “TAC currently has the most aggressive administration in years, and you all are doing a great job.”

In each community I gave away a round trip ticket to attend the Annual Meeting in Anchorage on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Winners of the ticket are required to be a TAC shareholder. It is TAC’s intention to cover the cost of the roundtrip airfare, therefore, lodging and meals are the sole responsibility of the recipient. We had many other door prizes to give away as well, which included TAC gear, books and the Aleut Story DVD. What follows are the prize winners in each community.

We held our meeting at the Grand Aleutian, which was well attended by many shareholders. While in Unalaska I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Ounalashka Corporation’s annual banquet, once again. This was the second time I was able to attend and I am very impressed with this function. It is a very popular annual event in Unalaska, which is well attended by their shareholders, who are also TAC shareholders, and many other community members that are invited to attend.

Nikolski – 13 attended

While in Nikolski I was able to walk through the community and visit their beautiful lodge. We were greeted by Arnold Dushkin, George Bezezekoff, Pauline Dushkin, and Agrafina Kerr. Nikolski has several projects in progress, including a wind turbine project and an air force cleanup effort. Our shareholder meeting took place at the school, and we were pleased to meet new faces.

While in Atka, Arnold Golodoff took Angela, Leatha and I on a tour of the community which included a road trip to the new hydodam project that is in the works. Our meeting took place at the Community Center and was well attended by members of the community. It was unfortunate that many community leaders were out of town during our visit; however, we were well welcomed by many shareholders.

Akutan – 21 attended

Ticket to Annual Meeting – Alice DuVall
TAC Hat – Polly Pelkey
TAC polo – Ruth Kudrin
Aleut Story DVD – Raymond Meredith
Alaska Book – Vera Pelkey
TAC jacket – Joe Bereskin

It is always a pleasure to fly in to Akutan on the ole Grumman Goose. During my visit the weather cleared up and we walked through the village, visited their new café, and took a short hike up the hill to get some photos. We held our shareholder meeting at the City Council Chambers, and met with many shareholders during that time. A highlight of my trip to Akutan was an amazing lunch with Hugh and Vera Pelkey at their Uncle Chris Tcheripanoff’s home. I was able to visit with Dimitri Tcheripanoff, Antone Shelikoff, and George McGlashan as well during lunch. Thank you Hugh and Vera for your hospitality in Akutan.

Each community is unique in its own special way, but they all have one thing in common-the strong, kind, and giving Unangan people who live there. The Aleut people are the preservers of the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands

I look forward to my upcoming visit to the Pacific Northwest to attend the PNAC/WADE picnic in Ferndale, WA, on August 12th as well as my visits to the Eastern Aleutians.

· Sand Point - August 20
· Nelson Lagoon – August 21
· False Pass – August 21
· King Cove – August 22
