Report
March 2008
It’s hard to believe that winter is quickly coming to an end and spring is soon to be “in the air”. For some it can’t come fast enough, and for the “snow lovers” it is leaving too quickly. Soon the last of the snow will melt and the flowers will begin to bloom. Just as nature renews itself, the corporation is doing the same.
PLANNING SESSION
The planning session with management and the board of directors at the end of February was very productive and generated many new plans and objectives. Here are some highlights of the new opportunities for shareholders and their descendants.
Our first objective is to increase our visibility and communications with you. We are in the process of designing and implementing a descendant database so that more information about scholarships, job opportunities and corporate information will reach not only our shareholders, but our descendants who are our future shareholders. We are in the process of redesigning our website so that you can find information more easily and quickly. Additionally we are working with our information technology group to be able to webcast meetings and events to you over the internet. So keep a look out for more information on webcasts on our website the next few months, and we ask for your patience as we begin our website redesign.
Our second objective is to enhance career and employment opportunities for our shareholders and their families. We, in coordination with The Aleut Foundation, are partnering with businesses such as CH2M Hill to promote career development amongst our shareholders and descendants. A flyer was mailed offering general maintenance technician training for March and electrician training is set to begin in May 2008. Our internship program is also in full swing, we are partnering with First Alaskan’s Institute through The Aleut Foundation to provide summer internship in 2008. The application deadline was March 7 and we are presently in the selection process.
Our third objective is to support education and culture. The Aleut Corporation continuously supports and coordinates with The Aleut Foundation to provide financial assistance to those who are pursuing and achieving educational and career goals. We are also proactively identifying organizations that provide training for our shareholders and descendants as well as those organizations that help preserve our heritage and culture. I am proud that our shareholders are actively working to preserve the Aleut culture by sponsoring culture camps within their communities and other projects to restore and preserve historical artifacts and traditions.
PACIFIC NORTHWEST SHAREHOLDER INFORMATIONAL MEETING
We ended the planning session with a Pacific Northwest Shareholder Informational Meeting. Over 100 people attended and it was a pleasure to unite with our Pacific Northwest Aleut family. One of the biggest highlights is that we invited the NW Unangax Culture Dancers, the Sngagim Axasniikangin , to perform at this year’s annual meeting of shareholders in Anchorage on October 18, 2008.
An announcement was made at the meeting that the Pacific Northwest Aleut Council will be having their annual meeting on April 12 in Seattle, and I have made plans to attend. These gatherings are a great way for Aleuts in the Pacific Northwest to get together and discuss their issues, visit, connect with each other and feel closer to “home”.
VILLAGE VISITS
As winter rolls into spring and followed by long summer days, I will again be visiting with shareholders and descendants in our region. I feel so fortunate and look forward to this time of year when I am able to visit the communities from which we all derive parts of our culture and heritage. My plans are to have informational meetings with shareholders, meetings with representatives from our village corporations and tribal entities, as well as visiting with local government officials. This year, the plan is to have members of the legislative staff for Senator Murkowski and Senator Young to accompany me on my visits to the Eastern Aleutians. We’ll be in Sand Point, Nelson Lagoon, False Pass, King Cove in early May. In early June, I’ll be visiting St. George, Atka, Akutan Nikolski and Unalaska. Last but not least, Troy and I will be visiting his grandmother’s birthplace of St. Paul in June or July. I am looking forward to being back amongst our shareholders and descendants in the Aleut Region to hear your concerns, listen to your progress, and unite as Aleut Corporation shareholders.
Again, I hope everyone has a wonderful spring and look forward to hearing from you!

President
