The
Aleut Corporation sells its interest in the Alaska
Trust Company
On January 10, 2008, the Aleut
Corporation closed the sale of its 73% interest in
the Alaska Trust
Company.
The sale resulted in a healthy gain and a solid return
on our investment in the Alaska Trust Company that
was made about ten years ago.
The Board chose to
sell as
it believes that it will be able to make a better return
on its investment. We will be re-investing the proceeds
to produce an annual income stream greater than what
we were previously receiving. The goal is to provide
a steady income stream in perpetuity to support our
mission, which is to maximize dividends and choices
to our shareholders.
The end result is that we expect to preserve our assets
and increase net income over the long haul.
We will continue to inform you of highlights such as
this in future newsletters.
