2007 Shareholder of the Year

CynthiaCynthia Lind was born in St. George, Alaska to Father Paul and Matushka Elizabeth Merculief. She is the eldest of five siblings. Cynthia and her husband, Joe Lind, will be celebrating their 25th year of marriage this coming year. Together they have two children, Elizabeth and Timothy, and a two year old grandson, Abel, who has brought much love, joy, and laughter into their family.

Cynthia has spent many years devoting her time to the welfare of the Aleut people, from both her village and throughout the Aleut region. She has unselfishly devoteCynthia and Joe her time to the management of many Aleut and Native American organizations, such as the St. George Tanaq Corporation, St. George Chadux Corporation, Tanaq Foundation, and the Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber of Commerce and sat on the Resource Council of the National Center for American Indian Economic Development.

Cynthia worked as a legal secretary, and then started working for the Aleut companies, the St. George Tanaq Corporation and the Baidarka Corporation, a subsidiary of The Aleut Corporation. Cynthia went on to become the Business Cyntia Joe and Mom and DadManager for SMI International here in Anchorage. Cynthia supervised the office staff, oversaw the project budgets, and prepared invoices to the federal government for SMI’s contracts here in Alaska. She helped spearhead the shareholder employment drive when Adak was in their first stages of transferring to The Aleut Corporation.

Cynthia is TAC’s first shareholder to go through Aleut Management Services intern program. It is a management training program with the goal of assuming a leadership role within the Aleut Family of Companies. Cynthia is currently the President/COO for Aleut Northwest Services.

Cynthia is a positive role model for native women throughout Alaska, she has strong family values and displays leadership the Unangan people are proud of.
